I know I always post that I’m trying to get in shape. But actually seeing my stomach shrink along with my strength and endurance building is such a wonderful feeling. Baby steps my friends. Fire academy is calling my name after medic school
People always talk about opening doors, taking chances on new things, etc. But no one ever talks about how hard it is to close doors, eliminate options, make decisions. No one ever told me how hard it is to leave behind people, experiences, environments that are now toxic, but were once the best thing I knew. I am closing the door on a career in law enforcement for the foreseeable future, and its terrifying. I am leaving behind opportunities for power, influence, and pleasing some of the people I admire the most, because I am choosing happiness. I am choosing my health, my happiness, and a career that I love and will help make me into the best version of myself. I'm terrified, but hopeful for the future.
Update: April 20, 2017
Wow! Turns out I'm bad at updating this blog of mine! Sooo much has happened since I last updated. I've gone on two ride alongs with my local fire department, I got my first job, my sister and her husband announced that they are having a baby, and I am going to prom with a blind date! And I'm right on the brink of finals! AHHHH! I'm going to write individual posts about some stuff that's happened in the last several weeks, so stay tuned!
Status Update: March 4th, 2017
I've lost 10 lbs so far! And my gym schedule has been extremely doable. 3 days a week going strong, but I'm going to start going 4 days asap. Starting to see results but I would like to see even more soon. I'm nowhere near where I should be fitness-wise for the academy, but I'm trying to let that inspire me to do better and get stronger instead of terrify me. I went on a ride along with my local fire chief a couple days ago, it was fantastic. He answered so many of my questions, and I got answers that totally helped me figure out what my path into the fire service will be. We also toured the fire department HQ, looked at the firetrucks and ALS ambulances, and then we went to a couple different fire stations around town. We even went to a local ER to see what that's like. It was all fantastic. The fire department already feels like somewhere I'll feel at home. I got to meet several of the guys who were on duty, they were all really nice. I'm currently in the process of scheduling another ride along with one of the crews, so I'll let you know how that goes!
