So…at the end of 5th grade the kids were instructed to write a letter to themselves to be opened upon high school graduation. We were to hold onto this for seven years. We were determined to do it.
A lot went down between 2013 and 2020. We never changed residences but a lot happens in a household in seven years.
And to be honest, how many families were really able to keep this single envelope safe and available?
Well, as kiddo’s graduation approached we discovered we had no idea where this letter was. We believed it to still be in the house but we couldn’t locate it. At some point during high school I looked. Could not find. My wife looked. Could not find. Had we too carefully hidden it from ourselves? Apparently. We could have easily accidentally tossed it (recycled because we aren’t monsters). It could/should still be hidden among other documents.
Looky what my wife stumbled upon. “Hey, what’s this?” Me, excitedly, “That’s it! The 5th grade letter!” Only 16 months late. What are the chances?
I immediately let kiddo know. “OMG no way.” “That’s crazy. I’m shocked.”
