Hi people, Our 2nd Bckstge update! We met so many great people online in the last couple of weeks, your enthusiasm keeps up going. Thank you! THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS IN BAD SHAPE Everybody knows that, but how can we do something about it? This question has been nagging me for years now. Our new homepage explains how we could do something about it. Check it out and share with other music fans, we can't do this alone.
WHERE WE AT?
The Bckstge development is going quite well, we are planning a beta release soon. In this release, you can start curating your personal music library. From there on we'll add features every couple of weeks and keep you posted.
A la carte and Net Neutrality

Have you heard about the new Sprint data plan offering?
$12 for access to ONLY ONE of the following - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest
ADD $10 for all 4 services
ADD $5 for unlimited streaming from the music app of your choice
Fred Wilson's post at the link above really made me consider things in a new way. The above data plan sounds to me like an a la carte service. The user can purchase only the services they want.
But Fred posits the consideration that this approach may be in opposition to net neutrality.
while the carrier is offering the consumer choice, that choice is limited
do consumers want a limited experience on mobile? the immediacy of mobile and wanting information "now" seems to me like this will be a losing proposition
if carriers were to move in the direction of a la carte web services, which services make the list? which don't? what are the criteria?
does this increase the barrier to entry for entrepreneurs and new products/services?
could this lead to monopolistic and behind-closed-doors dealings between services and carriers? or even consumer perception that this is happening?
I have more questions than answers right now, but this piece today really made me think.
What do you guys think is happening here?
Do you think Sprint's initiative will be successful?
Do you think this is a challenge to net neutrality? Is that good? Bad?
With the largest user base, what should Verizon's position be in this game?
As I was giving a keynote presentation last week. I recalled my work as a consulting futurist on the the Movie with Bruce Willis, Surrogates and realized how close to reality this future scenario is. The technology of cloud computing as a tele-robotic platform for drones, robots and smart tech is coming faster, especially with the Internet of Things, IoT showing up now in 2014. Are you Future Ready?
Strong Layout Systems by Eric Meyer: Eric explains how we have hacked our way through web layout with positioning and floats trying desperately to get some of the functionality we used to have with tables. It looks like flexbox is the way forward and I for one welcome any move that will enable us to position things with complete control while still maintaining content semantics.
Life after the 'Like'
I shouldn't have to tell you that online advertising is going through a massive change. From the first banner ads to new pre-rolled video, marketers are constantly trying to figure out what WE "the consumers" want from our advertising.
We are all intellectual people. We get it. Advertising is simply just another variable in the equation of life. We will always see it, and frankly WE always need it.
How else would we find out that you could smell like Power or that M&M's have better dance moves than most of us.
With advertising all around us, it's time that we get in the game. Most consumers and especially those online, like certain brands. Enough so to publicly show their affiliation by 'liking' or 'following' a brand for all their friends to see.
A recent study came out stating that the top 2 reasons that an individual 'likes' or 'follows' a brand is because they:
Shop there/purchase product
Duh!!! of course they shop and purchase the product. I have to imagine only a small percentage of people 'like' a brand if they haven't purchased a product.
Hope to have insider knowledge/special deals
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Consumers want deals. It's in our nature to want to save money. So if most people that 'like' our brands are already customers that are looking for a deal, why not make them earn it?
This blog will house my thoughts on the interactive marketing industry and trends that will come from it.
In conclusion, what will online advertising become when we start and think about Life After the 'Like'?
