So I think I forgot to post about it here but I'm knitting my own wedding dress.
Edit to add materials: I'm using suri silk alpaca (apparently I'm slightly allergic to mohair?), and glass beads for the silvery and pearl beads.

watched birds at a golf course the other day, and witnessed a female grackle chasing away a roadrunner, as well as another dive-bombing
Merry Christmas- I've been meaning to do a quick video breakdown of "that dress", so here you go.
The Wedding Dress
Update The 2nd - I debated putting this in the original post but honestly its getting way too long so new post!
I have blocked the skirt! And she was big, measuring about 1.95 - 2m in diameter:
Yes, that is hanging on the wall in my halfway - that was the only place I could leave her safely away from my toddler for the 3 days it took to dry. I'm am still working out a way of blocking the bodice and hanging the entire thing back up to dry without the weight of the skirt dragging everything down while it's damp. Most likely i'll stuff the skirt into a laundry bag and suspend it underneath somehow. Previously the skirt hit me right under the knee but post-blocking it sits low to mid-calf length:
I have yet to finish the underdress, it's happening, I'm just really not keen on cutting pattern pieces recently.
(Edit: for clarity - this is knit, not crochet :) )
Thank you for the influx of attention. I'm making a quick faq about that knitted dress because I keep seeing a bunch of questions.
How is it being held up?
In those original progress pics it was being held up with pins with a petticoat jnderneath. I was flirting with sewing in an illusion mesh yoke and forgoing proper straps but a) the girls need actual support and b) I'd rather do something that can be reversed at a later date. As of now, she has crocheted insertion lace straps, with ribbon providing actual support.
What is the underdress/understructure like?
It's being supported by this dress that was going to be a plain thing but is now something that can be worn as a standalone dress:
And yes, I also made this. The pleats and lace on the bodice are all hand tacked and it took me about 2 months off and on. There is also a massive panel of lace on the back, cbf finding pics though.
Is there a pattern?
Yes, it is under Peacock Wedding Dress on ravelry, it is free, and I'm still updating it for clarity as I suck at explaining shit. It has four sizes but only the L is tested, so if you knit it and find something funny, message me and I'll fix my shit.
Update - Found more typos, also clarified the section of text at the end of the Angled decrease to reflect stitch counts for all sizes. Not
What about the bolero?
The base pattern is the Retro Bolero pattern by fasOLAAA on ravelry as well. I ended up changing the lace pattern and freehanding sleeves for it.
How many beads? How did I get them on there??
Lots. About 6-7k at last estimate. And I got them on there by using a very tiny crochet hook to slide a bead onto each stitch that needed one.
What other random talents do I have?
I'm a musician, you can find me on spotify under nikarra. I also sew and draw. (And can technically code in renpy but that's a whole other thing).
Are you crazy?
Yes, evidently.
By the by - because I don't shout about it loud enough - I'm a singer in my spare time, and I just released a second ep. This is the title track:
Hi!
The dress has a pattern now - I decided to write it up and adapt for other sizes. It may still have errors here, so I'm updating the version on Ravelry as I come across them. It's free, I didn't want to charge anything because it felt wrong to.
Also:
I've started another one.
I got dressed cute today! I made the vest, dress, and underskirt.
Also - I got married last month, I'll have some photos up eventually just cba at the moment. I plan on doing a photoshoot for the knitted dress because I want to do it justice.
