Have you seen Wilfred (2011-2014)?
Yes
Partially
No, but I've heard of it
Never heard of it
Wilfred
Wilfred (The American version of the Australian TV series)
So it's over. Wilfred was exactly what I suspected that he was. 4 years of guessing what Ryan saw when he talked to Wilfred. I knew the whole time though. The show started as a bunch of "what would you do if" and "how would a dog" jokes, yet it ended in the darkest possible way. The main reason I was so drawn to the show Wilfred is because of my deep imagination. Like Ryan's as I got older, a lot of my imaginations became gloomy and dirty. Sometimes grity. Wilfred had a charm that really appealed to me. He was a dog to everyone else but to Ryan he was a man in a dog costume who drank alcohol, smoked Marijuana and dated a giant teddy bear. Wilfred constantly ruined Ryan's life until the end of the show and Ryan would blame everything on him. I never visualize my imaginations, no characters or unseen beings. I do however wish that I created one. A Lion or a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Just to have a best friend. That's what Ryan did. Wilfred, a real dog in the show, is also imagined by Ryan to be a best friend. His depression was so deep that he made the neighbor's dog his best friend. Weird, but in the end it lead to happiness. Quite often I rant about how much I want a companion in life. A bestfriend, a girlfriend, maybe another pet but I did not ever consider creating one in my mind. It's ludicrous. Yet we found out in the series finale tonight that Ryan was crazy and used the imaginative version of Wilfred as a last ditch effort to find his center of joy. It's so sad to see the series end. Jason Gann and Elijah Wood were amazing in the show! I will always remember it and probably revisit it a few years from now. Thank you FX and Australia for an awesome story and fantastic writing.
This show is so confusing. They better give us some answers in this final season.
Wilfred.
