I love seeing the rampant way the average tumblr user dehumanizes anyone they disagree with because x descriptor applies to them. "you're a conservative, your opinion doesn't matter!" oh so you can immediately dismiss my value as a person then? "am conservatives support xyz thing I think is bad!" blatantly untrue, blanket statements always are, and it's very rare for issues to have black and white good and wrong answers so really you're just mad I'm making you think. It's impossible to debate with people like that because they go full ad hominem the moment they see you aren't the same person as them.
First, the fact you're a G1 fan makes me inexplicably happy. Love G1 Sunstreaker. Hope he doesn't appear in Skybound (if he hasn't yet, I'm behind), he deserves an easy break after IDW.
That said, it's an unfortunate reality in the discourse world. Can't win an argument? Let's toss insults.
Easier to think of us vs. them. "I'm right, you're wrong," than it is to accept maybe, just maybe, there isn't no grand scheme correct way. All roads lead to Rome.
Yeah, you can think that with some (key word) topics. But the average person? They are so damn nuanced. I'm not going to agree with every conservative in every opinion, for instance. Hell, we likely won't even agree with why we came to the same conclusion. I don't expect that of every liberal.
Maybe I'm just getting older, but I just want to sit down and talk. Debating is pointless the moment we go in acting like we know why and how someone thinks.
