fun with overclocking
So I experimented with overclocking my g3258 CPU for the first time the other night. was attempting to go from 3.8 to 4.0Ghz. Its base clock speed is 3.2Ghz. Its been fine up until now with me bumping the Ghz up a bit slow but sure. It did not like 4.0! I tried to raise the voltage a bit to compensate. I’ve been reading a bunch about it. I think my bus speed was dropping too low. When it was running CPUZ said my bus speed was hitting 98 I was like that’s not good...and then it crashed. Then I went thru a bunch of boot cycles trying to work it out. Ended up just loading my 3.8Ghz BIOS profile that I knew worked. I think I will have to raise the bus speed, voltage, and lock them on certain settings from here on out. Will do more research and take another crack at it. I’d like to see 4.3Ghz. From there I will need a better CPU cooler for sure. Running the stock intel cpu cooler right now. This CPU was $40 soooo I am happy to play with the thermal limits. If you don’t understand any of the above that’s okay. But please have a curious mind and look into it. Learn something new. How do you think I learned how to do this? I just looked it up.
