Example of the second stage of the empowerment process: gaining awareness. Starr is outraged over the media portrayal of Khalil and the public opinion that begins to form about him. She eventually abandons ‘Willamson Starr’ and acts on anger over the unfair 'justification' of Khalil's murder. She finally uses her voice (and fists) to defend Khalil and herself at Williamson.
