I think one of the things that always haunted me in Stranger Things was this scene.
It made me so uncomfortable. I was 13 and didn't understand why. But it made me so sad. I didn't understand but it lived with me. 6 yrs later I worked in an NGO that was dedicated towards abused kids and I understood. The Sexual Assault allegory was so delicate but so on point. And then the opening scene of this season came out and yeah... it was apparent. I love episode 4 of Season 5. Will accepting and loving himself helping him achieve his powers was such a beautiful plot. But also there was something else that couldn't escape me. Will didn't just reclaim his sexuality but he also reclaimed his agency. This kid whose agency had snatched from him for years. By MF, by Vecna, by his connection to the hive mind. He never wanted any of it. It was taken from him without his consent, it was taken from him with violence.
I mean look at his face. The way Vecna was taunting him. And the way he was bullied by the town for being a victim. They called him Zombie boy. But he was just a kid. Vecna tells him in the end that Will's mind belongs with Vecna. But Vecna doesn't get to decide this. He has no right, he never did.
This is the moment Will takes control. When he finally stops running from his pain and instead builds upon it. He takes control of the hive mind, that has taunted him, haunted him for years. He saves his friends. Because MF, Vecna doesn't get to decide for him, not anymore. He is in control now as he should always have been.

When love finds you again, I wish for you that is kind, gentle, loving, peaceful and tranquil. May it make you smile again, laugh often, dance like no one’s watching, and support your true self without condition.
