so in the seifuku's case its just mutual borrowing of certain elements that aren't asiatic in origin

but like what about the kimono or like huafu or anything like that bc kimonos are just "things to wear" right and they don't really have symbolism behind them. they're culturally chinese but not religiously important so is that still, appropriation?n like lolita is technically western in origin, right? so if people take offence that westerners are "culturally appropriating" japanese/chinese/korean/east asian clothing, shouldn't they be offended that the japanese borrow lolita from westerners too?

idk it's interesting to think about critically? i think there's certainly an element of western imperialism attached to popular notions of cultural appropriation (one way or another) and that's something to discuss bc everyone's going to have different opinions based on their backgrounds.
