Pokemon Sword and Shield Information 8/7/19
A new trailer has been revealed for Pokemon Sword and Shield! Here’s what was covered:
Pokemon
Firstly we have the return of regional variants! First introduced was Galarian Wheezing, a Poison/Fairy type with the ability levitate or another ability not yet disclosed.
Galarian Zigzagoon and Linoone were also revealed, with Normal/Dark typing and the abilities Pickup or Gluttony.
But this line also has another surprise...Galarian Linoone can evolve further! It becomes Obstagoon, with the abilities Reckless or Guts. It is also Normal/Dark.
Lastly, in the new Pokemon catagory, we have Morpeko. It’s an Electric/Dark type with the new ability Hunger Switch. This ability changes Morpeko’s apparence each turn and also changes its Aura Wheel moves typing depending on what form it’s currently in. In Full Belly mode (on the left) the move is Electric, and in Hangry mode (on the right, and yes that IS what it’s called) the move is Dark.
Rivals
We also meant two new rivals, although we don’t know too much about them. The first introduced was Bede. He is a prideful trainer who has an endorsement from Chairman Rose. However, he has ulterior motives other than becoming the champion in his journey. He was seen in the trailer using a Duosion.
There’s also Marnie who has joined the Gym Challenge to accomplish a specific goal not yet known. She is known for her clam and strategic battle style. Her partner Pokemon is Morpeko.
Marnie’s got some fans,too. Some wild fans. Too wild. Team Yell will stop at nothing to see Marnie become the Champion, including blocking other trainers from participating in Gym battles to holding up hotel room lobbies. But Marnie seems to be the only one able to disburse them. They were shown using the Galarian Zigzagoon line.
Thoughts
I’m super excited to see the return of regional variants. I thought they were the best addition to the series last Gen for how they brought new eyes to an older Pokemon that maybe didn’t get used much, and I’m happy to see them taking it another step forward. I also love that there is a regional variant that isn’t Gen1! That means any previous Pokemon could get a variant know which I would love to see!
I also ADORE how many Dark types I’m seeing. Of course, as a Dark-type user I could be a little biased ^^’ I especially love the new Zigzagoon line! I also love the implications that OTHER Galar variants could have further evolutions! I can’t wait to see them!
