Excited to be showing Welcome to Green® with @bob.bk1 at @galeriemanque in NYC next week! Wellness, Ltd. Galerie Manqué Brooklyn, NY 8. - 24. November 2019 Opening Friday, Nov. 8, 6-8 PM Wellness, Ltd. features a pair of installation-based videos by Bob Bicknell-Knight and Erin Mitchell ("Sleep Made Simple" and "Welcome to Green®," respectively). Appropriating the slick look and soothing tone of contemporary self-help material, the exhibition examines the commodification and corporatization of concepts such as wellness and mindfulness, and their subsequent use as a means to enable people to "cope" with and accept the vicissitudes of contemporary life (as opposed to, say, realize that their anxiety and stress may be perfectly reasonable reactions to their situation, and then take concrete action to counter that situation). According to the most recent data from the Global Wellness Institute, the health and wellness industry is a $4.2 trillion business worldwide, with the Fitness and Mind-Body sector generating $595 billion in 2015-2017.
