"I promise, there is nothing to worry about. Mitama makes me incredibly happy."
His father warned him to keep his close relationships secret, but Siegbert couldn't help it that time. "I don't believe we've met. I am Siegbert. What is your name?"
[Henry, Bloodthirsty and Heart Hungry]
"Oh, so Siegbert's your name, huh? Sounds reaaaaal fancy!" He whirled a knowledgeable finger, spouting steam out of his kettle. "I'm Henry, ahaha~ Been through a couple of knocks with Mitama in the past, but it was mostly 'cause I'm a little prone to bleeding. And death."
"What's your deal? Got a sword, a shield, and a duty too heavy? Got a curse on your family blood line?" He began to laundry list the usual pains of being alive. "I can help you with the latter, but the former? You'd be on your own."
Mitama laughed "We will have to test it and see." She took his offered hands. Hers were much smaller in his, but they did feel warmer than her stuff digits did. "Oh, this is nice. We should do this more often."
“They’re paying us, so that we can build things for them? That’s just dumb. Why don’t they just pay the people who are actually building those things?”
His brain hurt. This was yet another thing Dad hadn’t explained to him.
“Man, I dunno about this, Sieg. We should change the policy. We can do that, right?”
I'm just imagining Asugi coming to this fancy event for Siegbert's birthday wearing his normal ninja attire and a gaudy pink cape with the words "BEST FRIEND OF THE BIRTHDAY BOY" emblazoned on his back with sequins
He spends the entire time speaking to no one and gorging himself at the snack table.
Stand straight, deep breath, smile, and think Camilla. While Araceli isn’t angry with either Ophelia or Siegbert for what had happened, she’s certainly not pleased with her nephew’s conduct-- Nor their insistence on hiding something like this while being involved in fighting a war. She’d expected better from Siegbert... But she supposes she can relate to keeping secrets because she’s afraid. At least she can set things right and work something out.
“I would like to talk to you. Is now a good time, sweetheart?” It’s not a request, that much is clear despite the light tone and inviting smile. “It’s very important.”
"Well. I suppose now is a good enough time to tell you as any." So much for leaving a letter behind in the middle of the night.
"Mother, I have decided to go on a journey. A journey of strength! I may not be back for some time. I...have never ventured so far on my own." Hence the nerves. In fact, a small bit of him hoped that Daedra would talk him out of it. "But it is necessary."
Daedra had been anticipating an answer of something more familiar to the question she asked. With her son responding with something along the lines of : nerves due to an assignments or being expected to follow through with a princely duty for the first time. So, when Siegbert explained of wanting to take a journey - not a vacation specifically- and ALONE.... the redhead had to do a double take.
"....What?"
It wasn't long for her to recover, as her maternal instincts immediately slapped her to the present, and to respond.
"What are you talking about, Siegbert?" she demanded with a parental firmness, her brows lowering as she frowned. "What do you mean a 'journey of strength'?! What brought all this on? Does your Father know about this--- as he hasn't said a word to me!!"
Oh, and if he agreed to this without disclosing to her or getting her input---Oooooh was he in for it!!
"I don't mind you wishing to go outside of the capital-- but you're the Nohrian heir, Siegbert! You know it's ill advised for any in the family to go without guards, escorts, and especially not their retainers!!! What could possibly be so 'necessary' that you would think to do this--- especially without consulting Xander or I?!!"
Daedra knew Siegbert was practically a grown man by now. No longer a small child that needed the full guidance of his parents to get along in the world. Still, no matter how tall he was, she knew her son to be inexperienced still. How could she possibly let him go off on something so dangerous and not put her foot down!
-----
Elsewhere.... Xander feels a disturbance in his very soul.
"............"
-and no, sir, he didn't like it. He didn't like it at all.
Siegbert could not help but smile at his little sister, who always looked so happy to see him. He allowed Rose and Daedra to shower love upon him, but his frown returned once his mother asked that dreaded question.
"No," he sighed. "Not particularly."
What was the point? Ophelia was still cross with him. In his mind, there was no reason to celebrate. He wouldn't enjoy himself, anyway. Frankly, he wanted to ditch the party, too, but that was impossible.
Daedra’s smile steadily faded as she heard his reply. He was back to his gloomy and dreary demeanor once again; the mood he’d seemed plagued by for weeks now. She was wracking her brain to try and think of something to cheer him, figuring it would be easier on his birthday.... but Siegbert seemed uninterested. There was not much she could offer if he was too focused on his gloom....
Not that she wouldn’t try.
“Oh, I see... I suppose all your close friends will be attending the celebration in the evening. Still, your birthday only comes but once a year.... I know, why don’t you come to town with Rose and I,” Daedra suggested after a thought. “We’ll treat you to anything you’d like! Food, clothing, a special present~ Something you’d really like!”
Surely he’d get his fill of presents that evening.... but it was no secret that the older a royal got, the less personal the gifts tended to be. Mostly they were expensive tokens of good will or for personal gain of the gift-giver. Lot of lavish pomp and very little thought.
Perhaps getting something he’d like for himself would cheer him in some fashion, she hoped. Daedra certainly wanted him to enjoy his celebration day, but understood there was limits. She couldn’t force him to be happy if that was not in his heart currently.
