@gallantblood for ‘manda.
This is such a disaster. Why did she even volunteer for this?
Challenge yourself, she’d said. You can totally do this without Grams this time, she’d said. It’ll be fine.
Well it’s not, and she can’t and now she doesn’t know what to do.
Her kitchen is a mess of mixing bowls and wax paper and baking pans and open cake mix boxes, and flour and half a butter stick on the counter (she doesn’t know where the other half went), brownie water soup, cake pops that won’t pop and while she did manage to get jam in the jam heart tart cookies, they don’t look like hearts at all. Misshapen lumps.
She’d cry right now, but she doesn’t want to show weakness. They can’t know they’ve beaten her.
Instead, she smears flour on her forehead by rubbing the back of her hand against it while moving to get her car keys. She’s going to the 24 hour grocery store and buying cases of premade things like she should have done in the first place. Cakey, floury mess she is and all. No one else has to know her shame except for the cashier.
And the Salvatore she almost runs into when she opens her front door.
“ Stefan?!” Oh good. The guy who isn’t just hot, but he’s smart and he cooks and he’s hot (it bears repeating) happened to show up when she’s a literal kitchen nightmare. “ I . . . this isn’t what it looks like. Everything’s fine. I’m just--I ran out of butter.”
THEY MADE IT. for a moment or two, caroline actually thought their plan wasn’t going to work and stefan, bonnie, matt and mystic falls would be erased from existence thanks to the hell fire. thankfully, that didn’t happen. and now katherine was good - for good this time, she hoped - and everyone was safe. maybe now mystic falls would finally go back to being just another ordinary small town. it was about damn time. caroline is pulled from her thoughts when the mattress shifts. she rolls to her left and is met with the pair of forest green eyes she loves so much. “morning, mr. salvatore.” she whispers, lips curling into a soft smile before she pressed them against his in a quick kiss. her nose brushes against his before she pulls back just enough to look into his eyes once again, “did you sleep well??”

After saying goodnight she went to her room, tuning in briefly at the spray of hot water. Katherine ran a cool damp cloth over her skin to feel cleaner after such a long night. She got in bed and stared at the ceiling for a while, feeling how close the sun was to rising above the horizon.
She woke up around noon. Mason was dead. Rebekah had served her an great insult. Stefan had buried him in under a fresh mound of dirt in her own backyard. Another death. She sighed a little as she got dressed. Even now, in this new age, her life wasn’t much different. Katherine Pierce, forever cornered into bleak situations by the Mikaelsons, and alone. Repressing those ugly feelings, she went downstairs. Katherine didn’t feel like doing anything that day. She was lazy going to the fridge for a cup of blood, she debated making Stefan some breakfast or calling a chef, or curling up in the den under ten pounds of blankets and putting on some movies. She didn’t want to deal with the outside world or any of its problems. But she would have to speak to Stefan at some point.
“Afternoon,” she murmured from the stove, pushing a full pan of eggs around with a spatula. Fat pieces of bacon sizzled on a skillet. She didn’t like to cook, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t. After all the digging he did, he was undoubtedly starving, and she was trying to be nice. Katherine almost regretted asking before the question was out of her mouth. “Sleep all right?”

gallantblood replied to your post “From the day we met, I knew I’d hurt you eventually.”
how dare-
You knew what I was when you met me.
six months had passed since mystic falls was nearly scorched by hellfire. since bonnie’s magic saved everyone’s lives for the millionth time. since she got married and lost her husband all on the same day. it’s been long six months, to say the least. thankfully, caroline had the girls and the boarding school to keep her busy. there were so many things that needed to be done before the opening, that caroline found herself using it as an excuse not to be sitting around, doing nothing, for more than five minutes. for the most part, it worked. but still, there were days where she’d crawl into bed, hug the pillow that belonged to stefan, inhale his scent that still lingered on the fabric even after all that time and CRY. she’d just cry and cry, until her eyes were all dry and she was tired enough to fall asleep. even though she’d said she understood his reasons, it didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. it did. it hurt SO MUCH. they were about to start their lives together when things went south and stefan, being the hero she always knew he was, decided to sacrifice himself in order to make sure everyone else and their town was going to be okay.
it was after those six months had passed that caroline felt like she needed a break. it was bound to happen sooner or later, that much was obvious. with all the stress that running a school could bring to someone’s life, as well as being a mom to two little witches who were just finding out about their powers, caroline would end up needing to go away for a few days to have some time to herself. so when she felt like she couldn’t keep postponing it anymore, she gave ric a list of everything that needed to be done before she came home, and then left. there were multiple places caroline always wanted to visit, but nowhere seemed appealing enough at that moment. except for her father’s cabin. the blonde hadn’t been there in years; more especifically, since that day her mother. it felt weird to be back there, especially when everything was still how she’d left it. books scattered on the master bed and a nearly empty bottle of whiskey on the kitchen counter. when her fingertips touched the bottle, swiping the thin layer of dust that covered the glass, a wave of sadness washed over caroline. stefan. she’d shared that bottle with him while they watched the sunset and talked on her front porch. they ended up kissing for the very first time that day and it’d been AMAZING. unfortunately, their little bubble was abruptly bursted not long after; when damon called to let her know he was taking liz to the hospital. shaking her head to get rid of those thoughts, caroline grabbed the bottle and opened the cap, taking a long swig of the whiskey. she was now able to drink it without grimacing; she realized after placing the bottle down on the counter. maybe that was something it happened when you spent so much time around the salvatores---------- or BECAME one.
@gallantblood here we go again~
