In case you missed our recent announcement... GERWYN DAVIES is now represented by Michael Reid Berlin! To celebrate this news, as well as his show-stopping 2020 Tree installation with @theqvb in Sydney, we are going behind the scenes of some of his favourite works. These works served as visual inspiration for a series of gallery style displays in the revered walkways of the Queen Victoria Building, including this image: "This glittering tropical despot was made in my small, steamy studio above a Brisbane pub. Unbeknownst to the room full of Broncos fans gathered below, this work offered a way of responding to the queerphobic and pint-sized politician in power at the time by feeding him through the lens of Camp." - Gerwyn Davies 'QLD', 2014 by @ger.wyn archival inkjet print 105 x 105 cm This iconic project can be viewed from now until the end of September both in person and ONLINE. Gerwyn Davies is now representation by Michael Reid Berlin. Thank you very much Gerwyn @ger.wyn To celebrate this new venture we are highlighting Gerwyn's current collaboration with QVB Sydney in an online exhibition: Gerwyn Davies THE 2020 TREE 19 August – 30 September QVB Sydney + online www.michaelreid.com.au Christmas has arrived early to the QVB this year and Gerwyn has been commissioned to decorate the tree. The QVB (Queen Victoria Building) is a heritage-listed late-nineteenth-century premier shopping destination in the Sydney CBD. Gerwyn explains, "This project is a celebration of the mundane, the mediocre and the low brow. It responds to 2020’s barrage of unwanted gifts by making something magical from our collective mess... Everyday objects are distorted, twisted and warped, playfully modifying the all too familiar to create sculptures and ornaments that glisten, shimmer and shine. This spectacle of a tree upends tradition - if we really are living in “unprecedented times” then we need symbols absurd enough to live up to that." An amazing creation with Team QVB and @eileen.kamp This iconic project can be viewed from now until the end of September!
