30 Day Kaiju Challenge; Day 26; Majestic
Name: Galleus
Age: Ancient
Height: 71 meters
Length: 275 Meters long
Description: The last sauropod dinosaur (Or retrosaur) on earth, Galleus is a true titan. Larger than any other species of dinosaur or that of kaiju, it towers over most of mankind’s structures, and nearly has a full blown ecosystem growing on him. He towers over the majority of anything that man has ever built, and is strong enough that even other kaiju weaponry seems to bounce off of his wrinkled and cracked hide. Armor as uneven and craggy as a mountain range down his back, and occasionally finds itself being the home of a flying kaiju every now and then, along with a breeding colony of flying monster. His neck and tail are far more armored than his back, with his tail ending with a solid kukri like blade, which sharpens as Galleus drags it along rocky surfaces while he walks. His head resembles that of the old Brontosaurus misconstructions, with an added crest similar to that of a half-moon on top.
Abilities
- Titanic Size: Even for kaiju, Galleus is a monster. This means even small movements have immense strength behind them, and he can knock some back just by bumping into them.
- Multiple Sources of Energy: With a living ecosystem on his back, he sustains himself in a multitude of ways. From the heat just produced by his body, the nutrients given back to him by the plant life that grows off of him, the decomposed remains of some organic creatures such as the flying monsters. This means that he doesn’t have to devour the entire island to survive.
- Mountainous Hide: While his back seems to be made of rock, it’s consisted of layers of dead bone, armored hide, and weathered skin. The hide is useful in holding the colonies of plant an animal life on it, and can be shed in battle if overtly damaged.
Weaknesses
- Enormous Weight: Its enormous weight means that it takes extra energy to move, and that gravity is always working against the titanic Galleus. Force and friction restrict much of what he can do.
- Sluggish Movement: With most monsters being far faster than Galleus, he cannot retaliate as fast, and is considered slower than most monsters.
Backstory: One of the largest, and possibly oldest individual monsters on Mortus Insula, Galleus is in all senses a living mountain. Gigantic even compared to other kaiju, he towers over the landscape at times, and holds an ecosystem on his back alone. Surprisingly however, he leaves little impact in a negative manner on his island home. The earth shakes beneath his steps, shuffling and moving the soil to freshen it. His craggy peak of a back holds foliage and creatures that are specifically at home there, and nowhere else. If found anywhere else, he would be the living island of a creature. But here on Mortus Insula, he roams as a living landscape, interacting and keeping his island home in working order.
One of the more interesting parts of Galleus is that he sustains himself in several different ways. While feeding still brings nutrition and energy, the amount alone normally to require his large size would have killed the island millions of years ago. His own mass generates enough heat to keep the blood in his body pumping throughout, the plants give nutrients and required elements to live by the roots burrowed into his skin, and absorbs the dead organic matter that eventually builds up on his back, leaving little to waste. It’s one of the reasons that the Romans that inhabit the island worship him as a minor god and a messenger from Gaia herself. There is a part in the natural mountain chain where he can rear his head over to see them, and they give him offerings which he feeds off of.
How They Interact with Other Kaiju: Galleus is a friendly monster at best, trying to maintain good relations at the best with several of the monsters on Mortus Insula, with Ol’ Bertha being among their ranks. When those that feel as if they can attack him try, they find it hard to hurt, let alone dominate the titanic creature. Galleus rarely attacks anyone, but when he does, the world trembles.
So, I actually had Galleus thought up before I started the challenge, but he sat in my unfinished lists of monsters. So, no time like the present to have a rework done on it. Sauropod kaiju isn’t likely the best idea, but there’s nothing more majestic than a mountain, and a walking mountain is hella cool. Slowly fleshing out Mortus Insula more and more, which is really something I’ve been wanting to do.
I was looking for a good piece of audio from Wheatley (Or Merchant in general, but there are hours of Wheatley just talking) to try and animate some face sync for my owl, Galleus and
I forget how after Wheatley just gives me most guttural screams, it scared the fuck out of me
