"Viaje Vegetal" / Ramón Ayala
Year: 1963
Country: 🇦🇷 (Argentina)
Genre: Chamamé / Galopa / Gualambao
"Viaje Vegetal" is a jewel within the vast work of Ramón Ayala, poet of the litoral, painter of the river and singer of the red soil of Misiones. Released in 1963 and remastered three years ago, this album isn't simply a collection of songs, but a lyrical and sonorous manifesto in which the Litoral becomes a protagonist, a symbol, a state of the soul. From the title itself, the album proposes a journey: not a geographical one, but a sensorial and spiritual one. The "vegetal journey" is both internal and external, an immersion in the living landscape of northeastern Argentina, where the trees have memory, the river sings and the roots link history and myth. Ayala builds a vegetal cosmogony in which man doesn't dominate nature, but is part of it, dissolving in its rhythms and reverberating in its song. At the same time, it's an ethnography of the rural litoral worker in the mid-20th century. Musically, the album is nourished by chamamé, galopa, guarania and other forms of the guaranitic-litoral songbook. There's a clear inheritance of indigenous orality and spontaneous poetic speech. And the guitar -an inseparable accomplice of the artist- accompanies not as a background, but as an emotional extension of his voice.
Fave song ⭐: "El Jangadero"
