If you don't mind my asking, what's the name of the book you've been reading?

It's called "If He Had Been With Me" by Laura Nowlin. Even if I didn't relate to it in such a close, personal way, I'd still think it was really good. It's basically about childhood friends who grow apart but are still totally apart of each other's lives because they're families are super close and time passes and things happen. And I am vague. But the back of the book is just an excerpt from the first page and the amazon critic reviews are spoiler-y and that's the best I could come up with.

But if you're asking because of the post I made about the setting, let me just warn you that there's exactly zero mentions of any racial unrest in the book. Just thought I'd mention that lol.

I don't know where this mentality of 'there has to be a bad guy' comes from when it comes to shipping. But that seems to be it in regards to the treatment of Janine. Unfortunate that it's always an intelligent, capable woman that gets the shaft. :(

I think it comes from a long history of romantic dramas or comedies deciding that an appropriate obstacle is a love triangle and also the idea that there is only one right person for someone, so anyone else has to be awful so it's an easy choice.
