Mal: So this is where he buried you. Hmm. You were hard to find, you're not all here. I wonder where the rest of you is hiding, where your Eye is hiding.
Guess you were always a stubborn little Eye, weren't you Apollo?
Mal sighed.
Mal: I am here to apologize to you. Not for not understanding you, I understood you better than you believe, but... for washing my hands off you, for turning a blind eye and deciding you were not my problem, not my villain, when I knew full well, when your attention shifted from your brother, it would be me you'd come hunting for.
Perhaps I'm a coward. Or just plain selfish. Not wanting to be bothered, hoping someone else would fix my mistake for me.
I knew why you wanted to be a hero so bad. Your brother wasn't the only victim back then. You were a kid, and you were also a victim, and instead of helping a kid come to terms with all that happened, I chose to demonize you.
A part of you died back then, when you were a kid. Your innocence, any good that could be raised in you. I didn't know how to fix it.
Mal: I vote you leave the dragon where you found it! It's not ours, this isn't my veterinary run, so I am not going to pick up strays.
Syra: Dad! Just! Help!
Mal: I don't help criminals.
Syra: Yes you do!
Mal: Oh for fuck sake. My eldest is bad decisions on legs, the one bellow was Judge Dred psycho edition, and you're bloody Mother Theresa of Calcutá! I thought I taught you some self-preservation!
Syra: Maybe if you were a better and more engaged dad, we would have learnt.
Mal: Oi! This isn't my parenting run. Unless they came out of my vama, I don't much care what happens to my sperm-demons. So, i will give you guys all the means to be successful, but unless it involve me directly in your life, I do not care!
Syra: Well. I am involving you directly NOW.
Mal stared at her, sighed and brushed a hand over his face.
Mal: When you said you needed my help, this was not what I was expecting...
Syra: Can you help, dad? He's kinda heavy.
Mal: Are you aware you're holding a "punished" dragon vampire in your arms?
Syra: There's dragon vampires?
Mal: Aye. We call them Devourers. They kinda suck.
Syra: And what do you mean punished?
Mal motioned towards his bloodied back.
Mal: They got their wings ripped out not too long ago, and smells of self-righteousness and an unwavering sense of justice and honor. Clerics. Vampy there probably commited a crime and by the looks of it, it wasn't something small.
Syra: That's horrible! Why not jail?
Mal:... Jail a giant fire-breathing shapeshifting usually flying lizards? In what cage? This isn't the US Justice System. You commit a crime, dragons punish you. If you survive it, you're free to go, albeit with one less finger, or a hand, a whole ass leg and in this case, he's missing both wings and horns, so he clearly didn't learn the first time around. Boy done goofed... Big time!
