June Update: A Touch of Character
WRITTEN UP (WITH SOME PROOF)
The writing for the entire demo has been completed! Some of the dialogue and narration in the story may need to be touched up, but for the most part it is complete. The demo checks in at an approximate 10,000 words, and covers about a third or so of the first chapter.
In terms of the entire story, the first 3 chapters have been completed (if not proofread), and the macro story is complete-- it just needs to be expanded into the final product.
A GLASS OF SPRITE, PLEASE
Fata Morgana’s demo has a cast of about 16 characters, which means that 14 sets of sprites and 2 ‘extras’ have to be completed. As of June, 11 out of the total 16 sprite sets are finished, two of them being the extras.
The total number of sprites in Fata Morgana come to a rough number of around 40, so completing the demo’s characters already puts the final game’s sprites at 40 percent completed.
(Above are two of the cinnamon rolls of the entire story. A few secondary character intros will roll out soon!)
GUI (GROSSLY UNFINISHED INTERACTIONS)
The GUI (graphical user interface) has been designed and essentially sketched out a bit, but the mass of it is still greatly unpolished and totally unfinished. Once the sprites have been completed, the bulk of time will be focused on this, as the background artist (me) has to receive some wire skeletons of the general interior and exterior of the locations.
The GUI will be totally original and designed by Astral Autumn Games.
THE SOUND OF SILENCE
As the sole member of Astral Autumn Games, we/I regret to say that I have absolutely no talent or experience in composing music. Therefore, the tracks that will produced will most likely be done by commissioning composers.
Because the team has no funding at the moment, we cannot have any partial voice acting, except for a few people who I know can do it for free. One of the goals of the Kickstarter will be to hire voice actors and get partial voice acting for the game.
The programs used to design most of the game are free, and because the bulk of the cost seems to be focused around sound, once the Kickstarter is launched the most heavy costs will be sound.
As of right now the demo is unlikely to have any music or sound, except for placeholder songs until we are able to launch the Kickstarter.
MAY I OFFER YOU A PROGRAM? (WAIT, THEY’RE NOT DONE YET)
Fata Morgana’s programming is heavily dependent on the writing, but because it also needs to be proofread and the characters need to appear, and music and sounds will need to be coded in (and those are not completed as of yet, and the GUI is a very large component of the programming, the programming is only at about 40 percent complete.
Coding of Fata Morgana will be done almost completely by Astral Autumn Games, although if necessary when the Kickstarter is launched some of the funds will be used to hire a programmer to help with programming.
That is it for this month! I hope to have much more progress about the art, characters, and GUI next month. Thank you for following the development of Fata Morgana!
