currently playing infinity nikki for the first time (as well as my first time playing any gacha game) and i am. so perplexed by this girl.

she is nonconsensually ripped from her home and sucked into some other universe. the annoying rat is taken with her and they end up in some dark souls esque world. she now has the powers of levitation (?!) and shooting objects from her hand (?!) that can only harm bad guys and completely miss everything else in the environment. are these powers conscious of who it can hit or does nikki just have really good aim? after she meets some lady who has been chained to the ceiling for who knows how many years, a "heart" of some sort is forced into nikki's chest which gives her weird pains (no shit) from time to time when she witnesses emotional or "whimsical" displays.

anyway, im traversing this new land, in shock that this poor girl opened a simple wardrobe and is now in what appears to be some alternate universe where clothes have magic powers. if that were me, i'd be freaking out and wondering where the hell i am, what planet im on, and if im dreaming

i mean, shes casually introducing herself to dada and giovanni like shes just some girl from the next town over; no! youre not supposed to be here!! youre essentially an alien and youre fooling everybody!!

Why I quit Love and Deepspace (and It's not just the MC)

Can we talk about the one trope in Love and Deepspace that made me quit? It's not just the MC. It's the fact that in every single myth, somebody HAS to die.

It happens in every single myth. MC dies (well, I hate her so it doesn't bother much). LI dies (well, I felt sorry but then get used to it). Everyone cries. It's so repetitive that it's completely lost its emotional weight. I literally made a bet with my friend on who would kick the bucket in Zayne's latest myth. I won, and she uninstalled the game right after. The story she was holding on for just became… predictable.

What's the point of getting invested in a myth when you already know the ending is "someone dies and everyone cries"? It's not deep, it's just lazy writing.

I'm quite upset

Soon I just wanted to rant on here because I don't see any other discourse abt this-

I don't know if you've heard of Mazm games, but they're a company that's released some really impressive games based off of history and classic literature on Google Play and Steam.

Anyways, after Phantom of the Opera and (Thy Creature I think?) I hadn't seen any more new releases from them. Then Metamorphosis came out. I thought the art looked great at the time, but when I played the game, it was GOD AWFUL.

There's no game.

It's just a visual novel that gives you a false sense of choice. That's not to say that the other games like Jekyll and Hyde or POTO didn't have that either, but they brought more to the table. They had those little chibi missions where you could complete minigames and collect items- THAT WAS THE GAME ASPECT.

I didn't even get to find out if Kafka has that because you have to watch like 5 ads to get to the next chapter and there's no saves. Like what???

They introduced a new subscription system- which won't work if you giving your subscribers mediocre content, in my personal opinion.

Then they released Black Cat- same issue, they didn't even try with that one. They're releasing Romeo and Juliet next.

What worries me is the change of artstyle and the lack of passion and theming. That's what drew me to those games in the first place, and I'm sure that's what attracted others too. The original Mazm games took everything into account- music, font, the homescreens, the loading screens, inventory, pausing screens, you name it. Overall UI was great. But now, it's just a list of chapters in like Arial font with these new games.

AND THE ARTSTYLE OH GOD THE BEAUTIFUL ARTSTYLE

Now it's just slowly devolving into generic anime artstyle # 3

Like, I understand cutting back a bit, especially because these games are for a certain niche, and may not bring in a lot of money but this IS NOT IT

If they cut back on character design they could at least keep the chibi minigames so it would still be a game????

I hate this. I honestly hate this. They're alienating their target demographic- people who like classic literature and art, as well as puzzle games.

They really had something going, and this new direction is making me really sad.

Because I ADORE classic literature. POTO and Jekyll and Hyde were great games- I loved them because it was rare for me to come across content for books like that. Sure, they had their bugs, but you could tell that there was genuine thought and passion put into them. There's none of that in these new releases.

Dear gods I havent even payed Baldurs Gate and I'm getting some insane parallels from Veilguard.

We got Blue Karlach, Wyll but make him a Crow, and I swear I've seen guy and his pet in BG3 but that could be me misremembering.

The more I play this the more I feel like an exec kicked down the door, fired everyone who knew anything about the previous games and hired a bunch of game devs who are perfectly qualified to make a video game but don't know anything about these games in particular. Just handed a book of lore, skimmed and or had garbage-bot 9000 spit out a shitty summary before going to town making this game.

I'm trying so hard to enjoy it but I am desperately fighting to ignore it as part of the series cause its so wrong on so many levels.

Why do spirits look like blue people? Why aren't they in their cool original form thats been there since the first game? Why the hell is the fade so solid if the veil is supposedly still intact?

Why are darkstalkers so damn tall? Those bastards are ankle biters and I hate seeing them so big, I'm pretending its a breed difference because we're across the sea but that only helps disassociate so much.

(If yoy are the game devs I do not blame you, I blame those in charge for a rushed delivery and probably seeing BG3 and saying "Hey scrap everything, make the team more like those guys.")

What is it about Robin and Franky's relationship that has so many One Piece fans convinced that they are, or should be, a couple?

I've reached an annoying point in Silksong where as of right now the only thing I can do is several fights I cannot win no matter how many times I try. I can't beat The Unraveled, I can't beat the enemy rush in the High Halls, I can't beat the Savage Beastfly rematch in Far Fields, and for whatever reason I can't beat the Cogwork Dancers? And everyone keeps saying these fights are relatively easy and fun yet I am having the worst time of my life which is really frustrating cuz I like this game but I can't progress or find anything new because I've done literally everything else and it sucks. Especially because I've been so busy/dealing with medical issues that I can't even relax and do fun side quests instead (⁠｡⁠•́⁠︿⁠•̀⁠｡⁠)
