Children In Need: My 0.25 seconds of fame!
Team GB dance to "Do Your Thing" - Children in Need 2012 - BBC One (by BBC)
One of the unexpected things to come out of volunteering in the summer has been invites to appear on shows/in videos/at events etc. Not at all the reason I and many others signed up to volunteer but I was happy to agree to do this one as it was for charity, Children In Need, a very worthwhile cause. We had a great few days filming over at BBC TV Centre & Westfield with some of Team GB and Paralympics GB finest athletes showing off their dance moves. Most of it consisted of us swaying and dancing along in the background to 'Do Your Thing' by Basement Jaxx. We had a choreographer at the front reminding us what to do!
I managed to sneak in at around 2:05 in, just after Chrissie Ohurugu dancing along. It's a real blink and you'll miss it appearance but it was just nice to have been involved in a small way
Watching this again and missing the Paralympics a lot. Maybe got a little bit teary with Eddie. (Again).
Can we have it again next year?
Volunteering opportunity for next summer in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Quite a few Games Makers (and myself) have applied for this to fill the gap between London & Sochi/Glasgow in 2014. Have to admit to not having heard of this event before but it sounds like it's massive! It's held every 2 years and has over 10,000 competitors across 66 different sports. Got until 31st October to get your form in, at the moment I'm not sure if you have to go over to Belfast for an interview but it's definitely do-able as a day trip with cheap flights.
Great site to follow from a fellow Games Maker who now well and truly has the volunteering bug. He's charting his progress on the Road to volunteering in Rio and has created a site for fellow aspiring Rio volunteers to share their knowledge.
