The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released a few days ago, and apart from the fact that it’s an amazing open world RPG game, it’s been making the wave across social media for other reasons as well. One of them namely being the fact that even the standard edition of the retail copy of The Witcher 3 has so much to offer that it should put big publishers such as EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc. to shame.
The standard edition of The Witcher 3, which is priced at around Rs. 1499 for PC and Rs. 3499 on current generation consoles, i.e. Playstation 4 and Xbox One, in India (That’s about 24$ and 55$ respectively for all you American hippies) offers more value in terms of goodies in the box than every other standard retail box copy of any given video game I can remember in my recent memory.
Here’s what the Standard Edition (Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC) copy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt contains:
A paper map of the Northern Realm
Code for Witcher comic by Dark Horse Comic
Code for a free costume in the Witcher android app
A CD which contains the game’s music
A Thank you card from CD Projekt Red themselves
This is excluding the fact that there are 16 completely FREE DLCs that are being offered with the game AND that if you pre-ordered the game from Gamestheshop.com, you would’ve even gotten an exclusive Witcher themed T-shirt. (Though to be fair, the last one is very much exclusive to Gamestheshop.com)
Now I don’t know about you, but according to me, that’s a a lot of things to get in a mere standard edition of any given game. Compare this to Ubisoft’s paper thin packaging when it comes to retail and you can understand why we’re obviously thrilled to see something like this.
CD Projekt Red has not only gone and outdone themselves and created an open world RPG that will possibly linger on in the memories of anyone who has sat down to play it but they’ve also shown the world that retail packaging is definitely not dead (Since all the copies of the PC version have sold out from Gamestheshop.com and Flipkart.com) and can be done much better than how it is currently done by most video game publishers.
Why Big Publishers Should Learn From CD Projekt Red When It Comes To Retail Packaging The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released a few days ago, and apart from the fact that it's an amazing open world RPG game, it's been making the wave across social media for other reasons as well.
