The forms of lord ganesha and hanuman has many similarities and connections. The name adhi antha prabhu owes its original to the south indian bhajans sampradaya. Adhi means beginning and antha means end. Ganesha is prayed to in the beginning and the bhajan ends with prayer to hanuman. Ganesha the killer of obstacles and hanuman the essence of devotion . Hanuman is the rudra the destroying aspect of lord Shiva. In scriptures like parashara samhita, adhyathma ramayanam etc the birth of hanuman to shiva and paRvati is narrated. He is a combination of the powers of lord vishnu and shiva. Likewise, in brahma vaivarta purana it is said that Ganesha is the incarnation of lord krishna. Saint thyagaraja also records that ganesha is the elephant faced incarnation of lover hanuman. In his krithi 'shree gananatham bhajamyaham' the scriptural sources quoted as proof is a text called sangraha ramayana.
Hanuman and Ganesha have common characteristics like blessing us with wisdom and strength, removing ill effects of Saturn, clearing obstacles etc. There are two names in Ganesha sahasranamam signifying this divine connection. Pavananandana meaning he who made the air happy (by incarnating as his son) this name indicates that he is hanuman.
