They say love is in the air when spring comes calling, a sentiment that holds especially true in north India during Holi, the Hindu holiday that ushers in the first day of the season. While Holi takes place all over the country, another festival—smaller, yet no less beautiful—follows it with equal spirit in Rajasthan, home to India’s storied former kingdoms and oldest palaces, and some of its surrounding states. The Gangaur observance commemorates romantic love and marital bliss over 16 days of women-led festivities.
