Naksansa Temple (낙산사) is truly one of the treasures of Gangwon-Do and of Korean Buddhism. I was truly fortunate to visit it during my trip to Korea.
To visit Naksansa you will have to travel East of Seoul, to the province Gangwon-Do (KR: 강원도). It lies between Sokcho city (KR: 석초시) and Yangyang county (KR: 양양군). There nestled in the cliffs on the coastline you will find one of the ancient pearls of Korean Buddhism: Naksansa Temple.
Naksansa has an ancient history. A history that spans more than 1 300 years. Its history began in the time of the ancient Korean kingdom of Silla. So, it comes to no surprise that the temple houses a number of Korea’s national, cultural treasures.
