ganonfucker replied to your post: ganonfucker asked:mmm i feel like...
I’m really confused tbh because I have het ace friends who do call themselves straight. I get not being heteroSEXUAL but I think straight in general refers to attraction not just sexual attraction. Ty for explaining this
it’s no problem, i’m glad i could help! honestly its kind of a personal preference thing. n part of that probably is that heteromantic asexuals are treated & experience a lot of the same things as heterosexual people.
when i think straight i think “heterosexual” bc thats just what i associate w/ the word! sorry about that bit of misinterpretation there! and thank you too for askin about this!! c:
mmm i feel like i could have potentially gone too far into this as a non ace and a non aro person im having difficult understanding those who are trying to claim if you are ace that means you aren't "straight". Ace and/or aro people totally belong in the community and its really important that they speak up but some of this discourse seems to be either getting a little transphobic (in the sense of that you need to be not "straight" to be in the community) or just hmmm
yea like... this is where im having issues with all of these posts. people seem to forget that not every asexual is heteromantic or cis??
this has literally been a topic of discussion in the asexual community for YEARS but all the posts n discussions i’ve seen about this recently have been by people who are not asexual. and that’s a problem! how are you going to talk about asexuality w/o including asexuals, besides using those of us who are not cishet as one off defenses of your arguments.
but to go back to what you’re difficulty is, in short, asexual people (cishet or otherwise) are NOT straight. They are not heterosexual. But they don’t all experience the same kind of marginality or oppression. Trans asexuals + bi/gay/panromantic asexuals have experiences wholly different and face far more issues than cishet asexuals because they must face the issues that come with being trans + bi/gay/pan as well as asexual. we will face things cishet asexuals will never have to because they have the privilege of being cisgender and heteromantic, which we will never have. keegan explained this a lot simpler and better than i have, and i really suggest you check out their post.
i really don’t feel that cishet asexuals belong in most lgbt spaces because they will not face or understand the struggles that those of us who are not cisgender or heteromantic/sexual face. because they are cishet, NOT because they are asexual. n that’s what people need to seriously understand.
Lynn Flewelling is the author and the series is called Nightrunner. Stalking Darkness is the second book so see if you can find the first one
Thanks!! i was just opening up a tab to google that haha
Just feel warm to know @ganonfucker that these terrible people can only confide to themselves and people like them, and that it’s good to call them out on their shit to stifle their rude asses and hopefully make them more aware. However this is the Internet, so there thick ass skulls will need a properly large comment. Or you know, they could grow the fuck up. Either or works.
Hey um me a ganonfucker did some riffs! <3 Here’s the first. <3
