“The Brady Bunch” - Static Cling (1987)
This 1987 ultra-rare underground psychobilly/punk hit by Static Cling, in heavy rotation on New York college radio stations and in Berlin punk clubs at the time, was actually a rip off of The Gun Club’s “Fire Of Love” riff combined with demented guitar and drum solos, as well as lyrics about The Brady Brunch (the ‘70s sitcom about a family so seemingly unrealistically perfect that it's sickening), who go bananas and start murdering co-eds.
(Funny personal story behind this one? I started looking for this track, "The Brady Bunch", included in a radio show i had recorded on tape as a young student, almost 25 years ago but there was nothing mentioned about the title or the artist, so in the beginning i was completely in the dark. While on the internet, during recent years, i finally stumbled upon all the relevant info but discovered it was too fuckin’ hard to track it down. I even contacted the singer, Kim Draheim, but though he seemed enthusiastic to share the track, he proved to be too busy (or lazy) to actually do it.
Unable to find any downloadable links, I thought of making one last effort, a desperate post about it on my old blog, the first edition of The Underestimator, for anyone willing to share a vinyl-ripped copy of the track with me and about a year later, this young dude from San Diego, not even born when this was released (but apparently intrigued by my relevant post), saw it in a record shop and, remembering my post, bought it and sent it over to me.
When I saw his message, it felt like the castaway who had sent his message for help in a bottle and got the bottle returned back with a new message saying there’s a supply of Jack Daniels coming his way.
Can’t thank you enough @revenge-of-anus-presley!!!)
