minhyuk had been overthrown, told to disappear and with that, he'd asked for a simple condition: for elowen and maddie to be left unharmed. though he'd kept tabs on them for the last couple of months, minhyuk had essentially been proclaimed dead and wasn't entirely sure just... how to make it back when his family was constantly being watched. seeing his little girl from a distance playing in the school's playground stung, more so seeing elowen picking her up at the end of the day by herself. not once had he seen her smile during such times. minhyuk knew he had to make it back... and the easiest option was to present himself before his former associate: son hyunwoo, the one who'd overthrown him and kept up to his condition, thankfully.
with an unsuccessful attempt to recruit minhyuk, hyunwoo releases him, allowing him to finally stumble home to his family. bloodstained and bruised, minhyuk bangs on the door, and for once he cries. the time had finally come for him to be with them, end their unnecessary suffering. "elowen-ah!" he uncharacteristically calls out, loud and clear to make sure she's aware of who's on the other end. when the door does open, minhyuk doesn't hesitate to cling to her, holding her as tight as he possibly could. home, he's finally home - and she's okay. rather than apologising in english, minhyuk fully breaks into his native korean language and dialect, his hold not loosening for a single second.
