It was Fall 2019 PC (pre corona) and I found myself on the National Mall walking in a rainstorm. I had just left my favorite museum, the Hirshorn, and was headed to the African American Museum. I heard all the hype, but I had to see for myself. Real talk... I was not dissapointed. Upon entry I skipped the bottom levels because... well slavery, and went straight to the top. I needed to keep my spirits high. I was blown away The artifacts, art, living history! Its wild. Then I stumbled upon Garrett Morgan's display. I saw the original gas mask and it was like seeing the future in the past. It was on some Sankofa Technology Afrofuturism type ish. How many answers to our future lay in the technology of the past? Black people suffering the most from Coronavirus and are in greatest need of breathing devices. Ironic. Anyways, this a tribute piece to Garrett Morgan and all the other great inventors of the past. I was even motivated to do an updated version that had more of my color palette style. Much appreciation to the African American Museum as well. Im going back when we get off lockdown. #illustration #procreate #blackhistory #afrofuturism #garrettmorgan #africanamericanmuseum #coronavirus #breathe #creatorsgonecreate https://www.instagram.com/p/B-tJ3H0h5bT/?igshid=1oc38bo3jsf82
