Black-headed Jay
August 24, 2017 - Black-headed Jay or Lanceolated Jay (Garrulus lanceolatus)
These jays are found in eastern Afghanistan across the Himalayas in Pakistan, India, and Nepal. Omnivores, they eat invertebrates and small vertebrates, such as lizards and the nestlings and eggs of small birds, during the breeding season and seeds and berries in the winter. They also sometimes scavenge food scraps from around villages. Pairs maintain long-term bonds and build nests together from twigs, rootlets, grass stems, and other materials in trees and bushes.
