-Viola Davis (Fences) won a triple crown (Emmy, Tony, Oscar) for acting and became the first black actor (man or woman) to do so.

-Asghar Farhadi (The Salesman) refused to attend the Oscars in protest of Trump’s 90-day travel ban.

-Damien Chazelle (La La Land) became the youngest person to ever win best director at age 32.

-Jimmy Kimmel lifted up 8-year-old Sunny Pawar (Lion) up in the air to the Lion King opening song.

-Jimmy Kimmel surprised a bus full of people by bringing them to the Oscars, including an engaged couple from Chicago who got to meet their idol, Denzel Washington (#GaryfromChicago).

-La La Land had a record-tying 14 nominations (6 wins) this year

-Moonlight won best picture after La La Land was mistakenly announced.

-Half of the award winners were first-time recipients.
