TGA at Hard Rock Live Atlantic City 7/5/25

It's not summer unless one of your favorite bands are opening for a more commercially successful alt rock/pop rock band. Which is how I ended up in Atlantic City to see The Gaslight Anthem opening for Counting Crows.

This venue was pretty soulless but the plus side was I had a great seat and it was actually really easy to get to the show and get the hell back out so I could be home before midnight!

Shorter set as an opener but we got some really good Brian story time (check it on insta). Set list was fine, of course I want more 59 Sound songs but I'll live. Also it had been awhile since I got emo at a GA show but I did last night so there's that. They have some solo shows next month and I really may try to make one of those happen because this really was a tease!

I'm always ready for some good Brian Fallon stage banter and he was super fixated on Chicago pizza this time. Summed up by him saying "weird pizza, beautiful city". He did keep himself in check because they did have limited time . Definitely made good use of it! Loving the emphasis on "Handwritten" album songs. And Blue Jeans and White T-shirts! A surprise for me!

The '59 Sound

I've been going through some *stuff* and this show was gonna be a dagger through my emo heart regardless but at least I was surrounded by mega fans who were enjoying the show and being emo-ish with me. Brian was probably the most fun I have ever seen him at a show because he *loves* Philly. "I hate everyone and Philly hates everyone and you are my people."

He was really loose and the band was also playing in this really joyful way that just radiated throughout the venue. So much fist pumping and singing and all of that frenetic energy you get when artist and crowd are really connected.

Hard to say what I enjoyed the most but Old White Lincoln and the gut punch of Jazz/Ferris Wheel stand out. And freaking Miles Davis! I mean that last half of the show was like everything I need from a GA show.
