guys the debate of who’s a “true fan” or not doesn’t even get called into question here. anime!inuyasha vs manga!inuyasha has nothing to do with your validity as a fan. 😭

like it or not, the manga was directly created by Rumiko. the anime was edited and moulded by Sunrise.

i, personally, have not read the manga. in fact, i may not ever read the manga because i don’t have the time for it and i’m honestly satisfied with what i got from the anime. however, that doesn’t mean i dismiss what i hear of manga!inuyasha and take what i experienced as an anime-only consumer to be 100% true.

granted, this is only my opinion and there isn’t realllllly one correct answer, but we have to acknowledge that anime!inuyasha is not the “true” inuyasha. again- take this with a grain of salt- i consider what the author herself had the most say in to be most canon (or “true”).

this has nothing to do with who’s a “true fan” or not. it simply has to do with understanding and accepting that anime!inuyasha is not a… complete inuyasha.

this is just my take, and it’s 4 am where i am, so please excuse my incoherency lmao.

Exactly, I mean I'm in the same position in the Game of Thrones fandom for example. I looved the series (excluding season 8 lol) but all the GOT blogs I follow always mention that the characters are much better in the books. Sometimes I read analyses on the differences and I know that what I'm watching is an adaptation and that's fine. I don't have the energy and time to read the books either, lol. Which is why I like to make posts on the differences between the anime and the manga for Inuyasha! So that people can see what I'm talking about without having to read the whole series themselves.

Anyway, I think the "issue" with my meme was the I used the word "real" Inuyasha, maybe "best" would have been a better word but I was just following the meme template lol.

Dear Tumblr, did you know that one word can have many meanings depending upon context? And different spaces can even use the same word to mean different things?

Going "this isn't a valid way to do that" because some people who do it that way are fucking horrible is stupid. There are horrible proshippers who misuse that term. People appropriating and misusing a term on purpose or because they don't care is not the same as someone using an umbrella term a different way than you.

All the alternate terms people have mentioned are, shockingly, otherkin community terminology. Using the blanket community term isn't inherently bad and thr issue here is yall acting like it is. I'm genderfluid and Hades is gendervoid. Gendervoid is a subset of agender*, all three terms qualify under the non-binary umbrella term, which is under the trans umbrella term. Someone saying they're trans when they are actually a micro label is not bad and if you saw someone saying so I would fucking hope you would disagree. Otherkin and therian and fictionkin are all identities. Someone using the umbrella term instead of a micro label and you having an issue with it is the definition if gatekeeping.

If the rude anons don’t stop, I would turn off anon asks for a week or so. The proof that they’re trolls and agitators is that there are no negative or rude comments on the post itself but only in anon asks, because they can only spew their vitriol when anonymous

Don't worry it wasn't that bad! I understand what the other anons were saying I just feel like it's a bit too much to call a meme gatekeeping lol. I didn't get other messages like that since yesterday so we're good (for now).

Hey uh

Now that a lot Discourse TM has quieted down around it, I would like quietly and gently request that folks, especially cis folks not call me “theyfab”. (I understand that folks like plaidos were saying cis folks can only use it in instances of calling out transmisogyny, but I still feel like the power in context is something I personally don’t feel great about in our current climate.)

I understand when it’s coming from trans woman and TMA folks it’s intended like “cracker” or “Karen”. I accept that and previously just gritted my teeth while I worked to genuinely check my privilege.

However, I really really need other trans people to understand that about a decade ago, when I was first coming out, “theyfab” was a phrase that around me was used exclusively by self IDing truscum and transmedicalist people to tell me I was just a cisgirl who wanted to be special and that it was an insult to real transsexuals to imply I should ever be part of the community. This frequent and deliberate exclusion really got in my head and made impossible for me to understand and work with my dysphoria. It’s part of why I’ve had such a hard time accepting that any form of physical transition is something I can pursue. These truscum and trans med folks were both TMA and TME. It wasn’t just online, these were barriers I faced in person.

That all being said, a caveat, I don’t think most of the trans women and other TMA people who use the word today are using it in a truscum or transmed context. I don’t think they are truscum or trans meds and I understand why they would use the word “theyfab” when dealing with transmisogyny from TME people. I am not trying to make a blanket “they can never use the word it’s a slur” type of argument. (It’s also not a slur in my mind because its use is contextual. I think cis people can intend it as a slur, and have, but that doesn’t make it inherently one.)

I’m tagging this liberally so people can avoid it, I am not trying to attract attention or get in a debate.

I’ve been dealing with a lot of really debilitating dysphoria swirling with depression. I should still be called out if I do something oppressive or shitty, this is not me trying to imply because I am mentally ill I cannot be help accountable. However I just really need to avoid that word if possible because it is in all honesty, a trigger for me for the reasons explained above.
