Thoughts on the Gaur? The largest bovine and one of the heaviest land animals. An absolutely jacked and stacked creature.

I saw your Gaur post. You should look up the skeleton, if you havnt already.

I definitely have. The thing that upsets me about it is that I was expecting the vertebrae to be pretty tall- it’s consistent with like bison skeletons and other ungulates- but when I look at a bison skeleton I can clearly picture how a bison fits over those bones.

When I look between a picture of a gaur and a gaur skeleton I cannot conceive of how the muscles cover that skeleton. It’s baffling and upsetting.

In my animal anatomy class we looked at how more muscles mean more bone. Lots of muscle in something requires greater bone attachments to hold onto. That’s why bison vertebra look like a spinosaurus. Those bones hold up the huge mound of muscle that goes into a bison’s head and neck.

My problem with the gaur is that the bone ridges of the spine look too tall for the relatively flat and square shape of it. I expected beefy scapula, and those are present, but the spine is just. How. Where??? How go??

I looked at the skeletons for as long as I’d looked at gaur itself and then I just closed the browser. This animal is not visually pleasing to me in any regard.
