So. Should I get mass effect? Like everyone I know has played it and I'm interested but should I?

yeah seriously I cannnot recommend mass effect enough, its one of the biggest creative and emotional influences of my life tbh.

that trilogy, the visuals, the story, the combat, and especially the characters and writing is still some of the best in the gaming industry (better than some feature films ive seen too) and I haven’t cried so hard or laughed my ass off as much as I have with mass effect. and combat aside, it’s fucking interesting as hell too; it deals with a lot of different issues like racism, genocide, the value of life or what it means to be alive and what do you judge to be alive or of value based on shit like whether it’s organic or synthetic, whether it’s created or natural - it goes into spirituality and lots and LOTS of morality too; one of the biggest aspects of the series is the consequences of your choices in both big situations where you might have to decide between letting a few hundred people die in order to save thousands, and in smaller situations where you have to decide whether to let your friend shoot someone for revenge and closure or to convince them to forgive and move on. and you see what the social and political repercussions of these choices are too.

and your shepard can look and behave how you want them to, and you develop a reputation and form relationships based on that. and yeah you can romance aliens (people too) and most of the romances are really immersive and beautiful - and some very disappointing and heartbreaking [sweats]. 

that and the combat is so fucking fun. I almost always play as a vanguard who has a sniper perk so I just shoot around the battlefield like a glowy blue freight train of destruction and then snipe my enemies in the head from afar, it’s great.

and yeah the final game’s ending is questionable but bioware did release various DLC you can get to make it better. and the Citadel DLC alone makes the third game the best in my opinion.

mass effect is my absolute favourite series and I’ve been playing a fucktton video games since I was 7 years old, so I promise it stands out amongst the rest. it means so much to me I’m getting a fucking tattoo referencing the game lmao 

plus you get to play as a female shepard and she’s the absolute fucking best female protag ever imo and inspires the hell out of me. just watch this to get full femshep (and ashley williams) appreciation
