▶️ Have you heard of G-BOMBS? ▫️ If you are familiar with Dr Fuhrman then you've probably heard him say this term. It's a helpful acronym to remember Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries, and Seeds. ▫️ These are the foods that research has found to be the best at promoting overall health and longevity and should be eaten every day. If you're new to a plant-based diet, this is a great starting point! ▫️ Greens - Full of phytochemicals and antioxidant pigments called carotenoids. ▫️ Beans - Nutrient dense carbohydrates with soluble fibre that stabilizes blood sugar and lowers cholesterol levels. ▫️ Onions - Includes garlic, chives, leeks, shallots, and scallions. High in flavonoid antioxidants which have anti-inflammatory effects. ▫️ Mushrooms - A mushroom a day is associated with a decreased risk of breast, stomach, and colorectal cancers. However, only eat cooked mushrooms as several mushrooms contain a potentially carcinogenic substance called agaritine, which is significantly reduced by cooking mushrooms. ▫️ Berries - Low in sugar but high in antioxidants which aid in reducing blood pressure and inflammation, preventing DNA damage, inhibiting tumour angiogenesis, and stimulating of the body’s own antioxidant enzymes. ▫️ Seeds - Full of micronutrients like phytosterols, minerals, and antioxidants. Seeds are also a great source of trace minerals and higher in protein than nuts. Flax, chia, and hemp seeds are rich in omega-3 fats and the healthy fats in seeds and nuts also aid in the absorption of nutrients when eaten with vegetables. ▫️ There are so many benefits to eating all of these foods daily.
