She’d been buoyantly excited since the job offer. Funds from her prior job plus a little bit of custom orders since she’d come to town had given her enough for bills and rent and a little fun money, but she missed working. She missed the sounds of a bakery full of people. The second she put her hand on the door to Master Bakers she felt fireworks of excitement going off in her. Nothing hit quite like that first step in, that waft of baked goods hitting you like a welcome home. She meandered up to the counter and ordered a cupcake, because she wanted to give to the bakery whether they hired her or not. “Hi,” she said to the person behind the register. “I’m looking for Maggie. I’m...here to talk to her about a job.”
