I just wanna be really clear on that: Revan is a gender non-conforming woman who loves women and that is the Revan I cosplay. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
“Revan was power. It was like staring into the heart of the Force.”
Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong, but I still was incredibly happy to debut my Revan today at German Comic Con. A hundred times thanks to @agent-without-ok-days for stitching me back together and taking the picture!

“Savior, conqueror, hero, villain. You are all things, Revan… and yet you are nothing. In the end, you belong to neither the light nor the darkness. You will forever stand alone.”
Cosplay truly is a learning curve. Revan has for me been the first time I worked with Worbla, and the first time I attempted making armor. Most of it went really well, and I am incredibly happy with the outcome, but I also encountered many flaws and errors as soon as I entered the con floor.
Although I stuck to all the advice and instructions that I could find online on how to securely attach a piece of worbla armor to straps and thereby your body, it didn’t work out. After only a short time of wearing the chest harness, one side ripped and had to be held together by duct tape and luck (you can see it in the pictures if you look for it). Then my arm guards and gloves started coming apart. It was a mess and I was really regretting all my life choices.
There was also the issue that during production of the costume, I had apparently lost weight, not immense amounts but enough to make a good two centimetres difference in circumference, which meant I had to safety pin myself together, and the resulting tension on the harness when I moved and breathed was probably what ultimately caused it to rip. In hindsight, I should have kept it too loose instead!
To top it all off, I had forgotten to take my camera, my sewing supplies, my glue. The con was desperately overcrowded as there were two floors less than last year but apparently they had sold the same amount of tickets. I was not able to leave my jacket and the giant bag I had carried my armor in at the cloakroom because they had only a very small space which was full already. It took me over an hour to find my friends. I met a (male) Revan in the queue on my way in, and greeted him with a smile and a peace sign, but he only gave the nastiest look I’ve seen in a while and said something (presumably mocking) to his friend, which was, uh, bad. All in all, not a very enjoyable experience, which is sad since this con had been the only thing I had been looking forward to for months, and I dragged myself there despite still being in remission from my last illness flare.
However, I am trying to see the positives here. One, the time I spent with people I love, especially with Jess, was worth it. Two, I spent my money on lovely merch that will make me happy for a long time. Three, I know now what I need to fix about the costume, and I already know how I can do it, which actually makes me excited and motivated to get working on it, so that the next time I wear it will be an absolute success.
