GCS is coordinating our humanitarian and evangelistic efforts with district and regional government bodies in Ukraine to reach and support communities under daily attacks. Millions of people across Ukraine have endured months of intense hostilities without adequate access to food, water, health care, education, protection, and other essential services. Massive destruction of civilian infrastructure has left hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians without their homes or livelihoods. Too many are now living in damaged homes or in buildings ill-suited to provide protection for the upcoming harsh cold season, where the sub-zero temperatures could be life-threatening. The next major GCS mission to Ukraine is gearing up to help vulnerable communities prepare for a harsh wartime winter. Our teams are working hard to source portable generators, water tanks, water filtration systems, medicine, medical equipment, hygiene products, thermal clothing, Bibles, Gospel tracts, and much needed food and water. Displacement, being separated from parents, witnessing violent acts, bearing arms, being victims of direct hostilities are just some of the trauma children and young people in Ukraine have had to face. Such overwhelming experiences will no doubt have an impact on their development, attitude toward society, relationships with others, and their outlook on life in general. Children really do pay the highest price during war. GCS continues to tackle child hunger and malnutrition by supporting educational institutions throughout Ukraine. This time, we have been focusing on providing food to students who have been facing acute food shortages. It has been an honour to work alongside local School Director Larisa Yarovenko to bring both physical and spiritual support to those who need it most. A generation of children have had their lives torn apart. We can’t give up on them. The GCS team and our church partners continue to distribute emergency food to communities in war zones as well as to refugees who have fled their homes due to the ongoing conflict. In the midst of the chaos, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being shared, and many people are giving their lives to Christ. Since the beginning of the conflict GCS and our partner organisations have been able to supply over 2,300 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Ukrainian hot spots. This is the equivalent of approximately 3,450,000 meals, medicine, and hygiene products to people facing acute hunger. With the support of our friends and global partners we were able to distribute nearly 150 tonnes of RRT Food Boxes, water filtration systems, and Ukrainian Bibles to families in desperate need.
