If I am still allowed here after the Mine GCV slander, River Deep, Mountain High GCV and Gloria GCV are far better than the originals, which is saying something because the originals are fantastic.

Damn I can't even remember the last time I heard the OG of those. But yes those two are god tier, and it's a shame only RDMH gets its due credit imo. Gloria is, well, Glorious.

Yes thank you, I mean the OG is just so underwhelming after the killer cellos and the duet's whole vibe and Naya's BELT I mean come on, I'm sorry but listening to the original on the radio was so underwhelming. nobody moved. nobody cheered.

which songs do you think Glee noticeably improved on or made worse?

There are like 700 songs and a lot of them fall outside the mediocre category, one way or another, and the completionist in me would want to list and sort them all. That said here are a few examples.

A lot of mashups flow so well together they make an entirely new song so it's kind of unfair to say a combo with another song is better than the OG, but I think we can all agree Rumour Has It is elevated when paired with Someone Like You and put into that context. Crazy/U Drive My Crazy is also better than either song alone. Homeward Bound/Home is just a whole new level with the arrangement. I Feel Pretty/Unpretty! God.

I know a lot of people won't like me for this, but Smooth Criminal GCV is much better than the OG sorry not sorry it's true. It was on the radio the other day and, yeah. Every Breath You Take GCV is god tier. Other noticeably better ones, hmm. Well I'll just say I prefer Songbird GCV with all due respect to Christine McVie. Tongue Tied. Probably so many more but the thing is I rarely listen to OG versions lol.

Made worse, well. I don't think Glee ruined half as many songs as people think it did but A Little Less Conversation and more importantly Girls Just Wanna Have un are tainted for me. Baby One More Time, and I'm sorry but The Only Exception. There are songs Rachel made better (dare I say Go Your Own Way) but not Britney.

I'll get back to you when I start listening to GCVs more it's been a while since I just put the playlist on shuffle.

I hadn't heard TSwift's Mine before it was on glee and when I'd heard it after glee I was mindblown by how glee and Naya managed to turn a song that awful into something so beautiful and well sung ;D this time the slow piano actually put emotion into an otherwise completely emotionless song

Idk what it is with slandering one Mine or the other lmao. I mean tbc you do you Anon and each to their own but for the record, I love both Mines and don't Love hate against either.

I used to listen to Mine OG every morning on the bus in seventh grade; it's always been my comfort Taylor Swift song. And hearing the GCV elevated it to a whole new level for me because of the context and the sheer emotion Naya brings to it. But both are cool.

So I can't relate to thinking the OG is awful or emotionless.

I would like to give credit to 2CELLOS for the Smooth Criminal arrangement and shout out their version of Supermassive Black Hole featuring Naya.

Oh yeah for sure 2CELLOS deserve much of the credit for the GCV being so good. The vocals are on point but the cellos really make it. And indeed go listen to their collab with Naya 😌
