Ben Nguyen decisions Geane Herrera
It felt like Geane Herrera started fast but then Ben Nguyen just poured it on, man. Nguyen can give you offense from every area, has great cardio (he was outcardio'd by one of the tougher guys in the division) because Smolka like never gets tired. He's a human cardio bank. Herrera likely gets cut after that which is a total bummer and a half.
Ben Nguyen out works Geane Herrera over 3 rounds for decision win.
Nyugen’s combination punching was on point tonight. After getting put on his butt by the opening flying side kick from Herrera, he just took over completely. Nguyen’s gotta have one of the highest accuracy rates at flyweight. Looked absolutely amazing in there against Herrera. Crazy fast pace. It’s not even like he was sacrificing power as he’s got some natural heat on his punches and was attacking some great angles. Herrera’s just a tough ass guy but got completely shut down on offense.
Smolka must be a damn machine.

Herrera starts the fight by running across the cage as Nguyen goes for the glove touch and just flying side kicks him in the chest. Nguyen recovered quickly though and quickly takes control of the fight with aggression. Herrera struggles to get anything off and his activity quickly drops. Nguyen’s combos keep finding a home and Herrera can’t land more than a strike at a time.
Geane Herrera vs Joby Sanchez
While he definitively loss, Geane Herrera (9-2) showed up in his fight against former UFC flyweight title challenger Ali Bagautinov. In a huge step up, he managed to put Bags into a lot of dangerous positions when he wasn’t getting the crap beat out of him. I really think Herrera has a future at flyweight but seems like Shelby is going to test him every step of the way.
Herrera will face another dangerous flyweight when he heads down to Melbourne to face off with Ben Nguyen (15-6) at UFC Fight Night 101 this Saturday (Nov. 26th).

Flyweights Geane Herrera and Ben Nguyen are set to face off in Melbourne. La Pulga is coming off a competitive but definitive loss to Ali Bags while Nyugen is coming off a stoppage loss to Louis Smolka. Should be a fantastic fight.
