Thoughts whilst listening to Artificial Heart
I kinda feel like people don't really respect Jonathan Coulton as an artist because his genre is Geek-Rock, but if you take the album Artificial Heart and sort of take out the geeky/comedic songs (Like Still Alive, Je suis Rick Springfield etc.) then you're left with a very coherent album about getting old. It's especially shown in songs like Glasses and Alone at Home. In Glasses it's an obvious look at growing older even shown withing the chorus, Alone at Home is about marriage problems where the character is trying to put up with everything so his marriage won't fall apart. Really it's a fantastic album that's under appreciated by pretty much everyone.
Nerds who perform punk/rockabilly in the vein of sci-fi. Intelligent, funny, groovy, catchy and fun. Seriously, these guys deserve WAY more fucking love than they get.
I rank them up their with The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, The Protomen and They Might Be Giants, or Jonathan Coulton.
They have a lot of great music, so...start digging.
Darkest of the Hillside Thickets; Cthulhu inspired geek-rock. Yes. Love it.
