THE TRADE WRAP UP
The off-season trade period has been super successful for the Geelong Cats Football Club, picking up three stars in Oliver Henry, Jack Bowes and Tanner Bruhn.
We unfortunately had to say goodbye to Francis Evans, Quinton Narkle, Nick Stevens, Paul Tsapatolis and Zane Williams all of whom weren’t offered contracts for the 2023 season. Luke Dahlhaus, Shaun Higgins and Joel Selwood all decided to hang up their boots going forward, all after decorated careers. We thank all players for their extensive contributions and loyalty to the club.
In securing Oliver Henry, it has involved a three way trade with Hawthorn and Collingwood. To receive Henry, Geelong gave pick 25 to Collingwood and Cooper Stephens to Hawthorn, while Hawthorn also said goodbye to Brownlow Medalist Tom Mitchell, trading him to Collingwood. We look forward to seeing what Henry can produce for Geelong, with the No.17 pick in the 2020 National draft having kicked 28 goals in 25 games at the Pies.
Jack Bowes has joined us from the Gold Coast Suns. The 24-year old will make the move after committing to Geelong on a four year deal. As part of the deal the Cats will also receive Pick 7 from the Suns, in exchange the Suns will receive a future third selection. He has played 83 games following being a top-10 pick in the 2016 draft. The midfielder has the ability to play a variety of positions, adding an extraordinary amount of depth to the Cats team across the field.
We also welcome 20 year-old Tanner Bruhn from the GWS Giants. In exchange for the 18th selection in this year's AFL draft, Geelong welcomed the talented midfielder and Geelong native. He was taken as pick 12 in the 2020 draft and is set for a huge 2023 season.
The club has secured picks 7, 58, 64 in the 2022 NAB AFL Draft which commences on 28 November.
