Geghard Monastery, Armenia. Reputed home of the Spear of Destiny, the spear that pierced Jesus at the Crucifixion. The word Geghard means ‘spear’ in Armenian. Armani was the first country to adopt Christianity as its official religion in 301AD and the monastery at Geghard was founded in the 4th century with the current building having been there since the 13th century as the original buildings were destroyed. Part of the complex is carved out of the rock.
