GEHM OF THE WEEK: This week RICARDO ORTIZ is a GEHM Among Us!
We honor our GEHM of the week by sitting them down with the Editor-In-Chief, Lincoln Farquharson, and allow them to interview one another . . .
LF: Thank you for taking time out of your day and on such short notice to have this conversation.
RO: No problem. The pleasure is mine. Ask away.
LF: Where are you from?
RO: I was born in Guanajuato, Mexico and moved to the United States when I was 13. I currently live in Levittown, PA.
LF: Who is your favorite character?
RO: You are (laugh). Kidding! You’re great and all but Vibrant is my favorite. I remember, after reading your book, when I met you we talked about the characters and you said, and I quote, “I can’t reveal too much about her powers but her possibilities are endless.” You got me there. Then her fear of herself, and her humanity in the story was great.
LF: I’m honored to be in the running (laugh). How long have you been into comics?
RO: I’ve been reading comics since I could buy them when I first moved to the US. Honestly speaking, it was one of the few things I was looking forward to when I first moved here, the chance to actually read the comic book and not just watch the cartoons.
RO: What do you regard your creations as? Are they your friends, children, are they a part of you, or are they what you aspire to be?
LF: Hmmm . . . I never thought of them like that. I guess the best answer would be a part of me. They are all people in my head. Each Team Genesis member is a magnified aspect of my personality. Ice Storm is direct, passionate, and rigid; Vibrant is humble, patient, and understanding; Grant always sees the bigger picture sometimes missing the small things (like people); Streaks is youthful, always ready, and doesn’t take anything too serious; Stampede is reserved, proud, and smart; Mirage is focused on getting the job done, by any means necessary, and never has time for anything else; and Flare is kind, loving, and innocent.
RO: They are just as much a part of you as you are a part of them.
LF: Indeed they are.
RO: You don’t have to give me specifics, but how much further have you guys planned? How much can we anticipate? This doesn’t just apply to comic books, but also merchandise, television, and movies.
LF: We have written out in full, 6 episodes. They all haven’t been converted to script just yet, only the first 4. The last two are in regular short story format. The entire season is outlined. A season is 12 episodes and we call each issue an episode. So we know what the first 12 books are going to look like. That’s just the Team Genesis title though. That doesn’t include the mini-series like Delta Squadron. For Delta Squadron, we have 2 episodes written out in full script. We are currently trying to get an animated teaser produced so we can then use it to generate money towards a fully animated show. We have been approached about getting characters into figurines and put into stores. We don’t have a timeline for any of these things, however, but we have things written up for various types of projects just in case an opportunity presents itself, we are ready to move on it. For right now, all we can do is make comics. We are moving towards moving comics though, hopefully by this summer. It won’t be as animated as we would like, but it will show that we are trying.
RO: What would be the best way to help you? Are we talking a kickstarter or should I just buy 20 copies of every book and give them to everybody I know?
LF: (laugh) The best way is to just share with your network. Not enough people know about us. We need those who do know about us to tell others that they should get to know us. If you have friends that like great art, great stories, or into the comic book stuff, add them to our Facebook group, invite them to like our page, and let them know how you feel about us.
RO: Well that’s a given. I’m definitely doing that. My message to people is to not just look at DC and Marvel. Their worlds are amazing but if you look you can find that FarCorners Studios have the same quality, have the same drive, they have the same passion, and if they are given a chance, they are just as great.
LF: You’re awesome. I knew there was a reason they picked you for this (laugh).
RO: I still can’t wait to have every comic book I can from you guys, all signed and CGC certified.
LF: We are so appreciative of the love you have shown us since our first issue. Thank you!
