Let me tell you about a friend of mine named @donovanwoods. He just got home from a tour around Europe and other places over there, and he jumped right in to get in on the #furtheroveryawnder Kickstarter campaign as soon as it launched yesterday. What a guy. I’ve done a bunch of album artwork for him over the years, since we first met in a writing class at the UofGuelph, including this one I did for an EP a couple of years ago. It was one of the first instances that I used the aerial view of a #geistwood. Now, I’m using this emblem all over the place. A similar thing happened with his earlier album, Don’t Get Too Grand, where I developed this typeface that I subsequently used shortly thereafter on the cover of my first picture book, Wanderer of Yawnder. Now, I use that type, or variations of it, on lots of stuff. The cover of Further Over Yawnder will have it. I want to release it as a font and call it Drawist (a project for another day). Somehow, I still like the way that type looks in its original incarnation. But that’s what it’s like when you work with someone who likes what you do and trusts you enough to do your thing. That’s what it was like working with, DW. Go listen to his new album. It’s great. Maybe you already hear him everyday on @cbcradiocanada like me. 🤘
