Visited Gelarto in the East Village a few weeks ago during a much needed afternoon pick-me up snack break. Gelarto definitely has that classic, old-school Italian gelarteria feel to it, kind of like Amorino. I got there at somewhat of an odd time, so it wasn’t crowded at all. It was pretty hard picking from the wide flavor variety but it certainly helped that the employees let you taste test the gelato flavors if you asked. I eventually settled on the marscapone and oreo flavors and got a gelato scoop of each in a cup. Both were just divine, but the oreo was surprisingly a stand-out flavor to me that worked really well as a gelato flavor while the marscapone was more of a classic, go-to gelato flavor. I’d definitely be up for trying more flavors the next time I’m in the area.
