my gem baby fic seems to have taken a focus on how just utterly disgusting and weird childbirth/pregnancy is, especially for a species that reproduces by bursting out of the dirt fully-grown.
Why has there not been an influx of mamadot art after that promo? I liked the little gem babies. I do not give a shit if it’s canon or not, they cute. Like a chihuahua with puppies. I need some cuteness to offset the inevitable sob fest that will be gem harvest.

It was the next day from when, Steven went to go check Peridot in the barn. Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst had met up in the kitchen of the temple to talk about their current situation. “Shouldn’t we focus our attention back to finding, Malachite? She’s still a threat to us, and we don’t even know where she i-”
Boom! Peridot burst through the door and ran over to the gems. “This is incredible! I’ve done it! I’ve finally struck my most genius invention! You all have to come to the barn right now!” Peridot grabbed Pearl’s hand and ran out the door of the temple. Garnet and Amethyst followed the two of them, figuring it was important.
Peridot led all three of them into the barn. Inside the barn Steven was sitting next to the new gem. Who was flipping through a stack of books. The three gems gave a gasp at the sight of the new gem. “Peridot. Who is this?” Pearl asked while staring in awe.
Not being able to holding her excitement Peridot nearly poofed from just the chance to explain her genius. “She’s the first gem, ever to not be grown!” The three were unimpressed with this answer. Seeing this, Peridot went over to her workshop, and picked up the now broken Gem incubator. “This was the device used to make her. It’s a prototype, and it’s broken. But it proved to be a total success!”
“Good enough for me.” Garnet walked over to the new gem, and bent down to her level. The gem hid her face behind the book she was reading. “What’s your name?”
She remained content to hide behind her book. But Steven rubbed her shoulder. “It’s ok. Garnet’s a friend. You can trust her.” She timidly looked over her book.
“My name...my names, Jade.” After revealing her name she hid her face back behind the book. Now going back to her normal reading pace.
“She’s still a little shy around new people. But i’m sure after she gets to know you guys, she’ll be as talkative as me!” Steven hugged her from behind. Jade blushed a little not liking how he was so openly affectionate around people she didn’t know.
Pearl and Amethyst soon walked over wanting to meet, Jade. “Hi, Jade! I’m your auntie Amethyst! I like the hair, man.” She reached out to ruffle her hair. But just as her hand made contact with her hair. Jade flailed, throwing her book into the air and landed on her side. She then made her way over to the worktable where she grabbed her hairbrush, and began brushing her hair back to perfection. “Well uh...alright then.”
Pearl walked over to Jade. She knelt down and put out her hand out to her. “My names, Pearl.” Jade tensed up a bit ready to protect her holy hair. “Don’t worry. I’m not going to touch your hair. I just want to talk to you.”
Jade was still tense, but her expression lightened a bit. “Well...what do you want to talk about?” Pearl smiled as Jade began to open up to her a bit.
Pearl picked up a book from the pile of ones she had been reading. “Well. It looks like you enjoy reading. What book are you reading?” Jade blinked as she closed the book she was currently reading.
“Well uh…it’s called, Flame Broach: The Waking. It’s pretty enjoyable. It’s about this group of mercenaries that go out to stop a war between two nations.”
“Oh. That sounds interesting…well. Tell me about yourself, Jade! Or…what you know about yourself.” Pearl scooted over next to her. Making, Jade scoot over a little.
“About me?” Jade had to think for a second. “Hmm…I haven’t done much thinking about myself. I’ve mostly just been reading these books.”
“Books? As in plural? As in you read more than one book last night.” Pearl looked back over at the pile of books, and noticed that there were two stacks of books. The one on the right had half as many books as the one on the left.
“Yea. Don’t you all read multiple books a night?” Jade began thumbing through the pages of her book trying to get to the page that she lost.
“No…we usually enjoy a book over the course of a week. At least a couple days. I’ve never seen somebody read that many books in such a short amount of time.”
“Hmm. Well then I guess I’m fast reader.” She buried her head back into her book. She was a little out of her comfort zone, talking to someone she had just met
Pearl noticed that she was starting to grow restless. “Tell you what. Given your reading pace, you should be done with that stack before the days over. If you want we have some more in the temple. Come visit us, and I’ll make sure you get plenty of books to hold you over.”
Jade blushed from all of the attention and generosity being given to her. “Well um…that’s very kind of you.” Jade tried her best to bury her face in her book, without making it to obvious that she was trying to hide from the conversation.
Garnet walked over to the two of them. “Come on, Pearl. We should let, Jade settle in. Besides we still have a meeting to continue.”
“Alright. Jade it was very nice meeting you. I hope I see you later tonight. Or tomorrow. Just make sure you come and see us.”
Jade blushed more and got up to go and move over to a chair in the barn. “Ok.” She snuggled herself into the chair, and picked up where she left off.
Late that night Jade was continuing her quest to read everyone of her books. Steven was sat next to her, exhausted from the lack of sleep between yesterday and today. “Mmh. Jade, aren’t you tiiiired yet?”
Jade rubbed her eye, and continued through her book. “No. I’m fine. But if you want to go to bed you can. I just wanna read through the night.”
Steven pouted as his daughter tried to get out of sleeping. “Heeeey. I’m your dad.” He poked her cheek.
Jade puffed her cheeks as she looked back at him. “I said that I’m fine. I’ll go get some sleep when I’m done with my books.”
A little confused as to why she won’t go to bed. Steven got a great idea to get her to sleep. “Fine. If you don’t want to, then i’ll just have to keep this up.” He gave her cheek a smooch. Then he repeated the smooches over and over. Not giving up until she gave in.
“Nyaaaaaa!” She flailed trying to escape the kisses. But Steven didn’t let up. He simply kept pressing onward not showing any sign of weakness. “Alright already!” She slid a piece of paper into her book, begrudgingly closing her book for the night.
Steven seeing this opportunity, picked her up, and walked over to the couch in the barn. “You’re lucky we have a couch. You’d be sleeping on the floor if we didn’t!” He laughed at his own joke as he set her down. “Good night.” He put a kiss on her forehead as he put the blanket over her. Jade simply pouted a lil as she turned over.
