[Of Nini and Hijaab] My name is Nini, I am a Muslim and I am seriously not harmful to you, your family, your country and even the Earth. Stranded at Athens International Airport for few hours before flying back to Cairo and the only way for me to kill the time is by coloring. After 12 days of traveling, today was the first time my tears fell down as I lost my patience. My friend has warned me before that whatever circumstances I might face in the airport is double than that of what I might face outside while traveling. My hand luggage was ransacked inside and out up and down and few of my valuable things including those that I intended to give as souvenirs to my family and friends were thrown away. I never had this problem at any other airports in the world. I would not feel injustice only if the white lady behind me had gone the same thorough procedure as I had. My heart shattered into millions of pieces when I heard the thud of my stuffs into the dustbin simply just like that. You know one of those moment when you feel your life going into a slow motion, that was mine. Speechless. And I feel sorry towards one of my travelmate who had to allow his palm to be cut just because they need to take his blood for DNA sample. If they want to take DNA, they should take everybody's sample despite religion and races. God still want to show me something today even though I am reaching the end of my trip. One moment when my friend was praying in the church because the musolla is filled, few non-muslims came into the church but they were so polite and kind and let us continue whatever we were doing there. We even talked to one atheist and we really had a very friendly conversation. Yes, we all are having different religion and faith, but won't the world will become better and more beautiful if we appreciate our differences and accept the diversity? #GEM16 #GENIIUSonvacay (at Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos")
Murale - Keith Haring, "Tuttomondo" @ Church of S. Antonio, Pisa. It was the artist’s last public work of art, painted in 1989 before his premature death. Tuttomondo was painted in a week without preparatory sketches to represent the good and bad of human coexistence. The main theme is harmony and peace in the world, but next to the positive figures such as a mother with a baby, two men supporting a dolphin and dancing figures symbolizing the vitality of humanity, there are some more “troubled” figures, such as a scissor man cutting a snake that has already eaten a man’s head or a man wolf with a knife, to symbolize the fact that mankind can be dark and dangerous, but we can fight the evil that is in society to reach harmony, the same harmony that strikes me when I look at the way all the figures fit into place on the wall. #GEM16 #GENIIUSonvacay #pisa #tuttomondo #keithharing #italy 🇮🇹 (at Pisa, Italy)
Day 9 & 10: Florence and Pisa, Italy. Today we visited The Leaning Tower of Pisa. Here are some facts about the tower. WHAT is Leaning Tower of Pisa? - It is the bell tower of Duomo Cathedral of Pisa. WHERE is this tower? - Pisa province, Tuscany District, Italy. WHEN it was built? - Started in 1173 and it took 199 years to be completed. WHO designed it? - Guglielmo and Bonanno Pisano, a well-known 12th-century resident artist of Pisa. WHY it is leaning? - The tower's tilt began during construction, caused by an adequate foundation on ground too soft on one side to properly support the structure's weight. The tilt increased in the decades before the structure was completed, and gradually increased until the structure was stabilized (and the tilt partially corrected) by efforts in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. HOW high it is? - The height of the tower is 55.86 metres from the ground on the low side and 56.67 metres on the high side. The width of the walls at the base is 2.44 m. Its weight is estimated at 14,500 metric tons. Other facts: The tower has 296 or 294 steps; the seventh floor has two fewer steps on the north-facing staircase. Prior to restoration work performed between 1990 and 2001, the tower leaned at an angle of 5.5 degrees, but the tower now leans at about 3.99 degrees. This means that the top of the tower is displaced horizontally 3.9 metres (12 ft 10 in) from the centre. Other places visited in Florence yesterday: - Florence Cathedral - Piazza della Republica - San Lorenzo - Pizza della Signoria - Ponte Vecchio Bridge - Santa Croce Church #firenze #florence #pisa #italy #ninieurotrip #2016winter #GEM16 #GENIIUSonvacay (at Leaning Tower of Pisa)
